700 Drayton - for a special evening

Our 10 year anniversary was approaching and it was my turn to plan (we take turns planning our anniversary dinners and date nights).  I wanted a place that we had not gone to before, a place that would give us the charm of Savannah, and that had excellent food.  After a couple of searches, I decided to make reservations at 700 Drayton - and I am glad I did.
The location of the restaurant is just beautiful and it's front porch over looks Forsyth Park.  They have remodeled the mansion in a way that you can still see the lovely characteristics of the old house, yet they have added wonderful modern colors, fabrics, and furniture to give it a pop.  To me it was a good mix of old world charms meets modern city comfort.  I loved it!

We did not get to enjoy the outside patio seating nor the bar, but many folks where there having a splendid time.  I saw many couples, a few girls having some girl time, and a few business folks entertaining clients.  We had our dinner in a room that had huge windows, which overlooked a part of the park and other beautiful homes that are near this mansion.  Our dinning room had 5 tables - so it allowed you the personal space you wanted but you didn't feel like they had put you in the farthest corner of the mansion.  Our waiter was very nice and very informative about their wines and food choices.

I had a very smooth glass of Pinot Noir and my husband had a beer I never heard of - but he was happy.  We started off with their Shrimp & Goat Cheese Polenta Cake which is described on their menu as: Cajun spiced pink shrimp, smoked paprika, prosciutto.  It was AWESOME - I could have eaten that dish all night.  We decided on one appetizer to shared, but I was thinking while tasting my first bite, "maybe he won't like it."  Well he did, so I had to share.  Their bread is warm and toasted, it was crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside.

For dinner I chose their Barrel Filet Mignon Barrel Cut (per their menu: 5 oz premium center cuts, hand selected by Richard Kessler; the most tender cuts of Nebraskan, grain-fed beef aged for over 28 days - hand cut and cooked to perfection).  My husband ordered their Center Cut New York Strip
(12 oz premium center cuts and same listing as my filet).  We both went for the whipped potatoes and I went with the asparagus and he with the green beans.  The meal was fabulous!  We enjoyed every bit and the flavors were fantastic. 

We did not get dessert since we were very full from our meal and wanted to walk around the park some, but their dessert menu looked very tasty!  So yes we missed out on Banana Chocolate Bread Pudding and a Peach Tart to name a few.  Hopefully next time. 

I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanted a special evening.  The welcome was great, the service was fantastic, and you just can't say enough about the food.  They also mentioned that they have a special date night activity for your kids if you can't get a babysitter.  I am not sure if they are still doing this since we went in May - but hey, it is worth a call if you need a night out but can't get a sitter.
